FULL BODY THERMOGRAPHY

Thermography is a radiation-free, state-of-the art screening procedure that uses heat detection to locate areas of temperature differences in the body. Most pathological processes demonstrate a form of increased heat, and some neurological processes show excessive cold, or hypothermia.

BREAST THERMOGRAPHY

Thermography has been used for breast cancer detection since 1956. It was cleared by the FDA in 1982 as an adjunctive procedure for breast cancer screening. There are over 800 published studies in peer-reviewed journals about thermography of the breast alone. Most of these articles show the success rate of breast thermography greater than 90%. A 2008 study at the New York Presbyterian Hospital in Cornell was published in the American Journal of Surgery showing a 97% sensitivity.

BTI's Stance

This should not be used as a standalone screening tool for breast cancer. Thermography should be combined with other screening methods (preferably radiation free) such as MRI, and Ultrasound.

WHAT TO EXPECT

- Expect to be asked if you adhered to the patient protocols you should have reviewed prior to you appointment.

- The tech will review your history and go over the positioning before pulling the privacy screen closed.

- Breast Cancer Screening clients will be asked to undress from the waist up.

- Female Profile Scans/ Full Body Thermography is performed in the nude

- You will be asked to temperature regulate for up to 20 minutes to ensure heat signatures caused by clothing or compression don't affect your results.

- You will be standing and sitting in a chair in 6-30 different positions over the course of the scan

- Once the scan is complete the tech will schedule a follow up phone call to review your report in approximately 10 days.

The images will be sent to a team of trained thermologists that will interpret the images. The report goes through a three step interpretation process and all final reviews will be completed by senior interpreter Dr. Alexander Sepper, MD, PhD.
